Troubleshooting and support in case of occurring problems
INTRODUCTION A growing number of SAP-based departments are facing major changes and challenges within the SAP product portfolio as well as in their own task environment. These result from influences of digitalisation, digital transformation, new technologies such as cloud computing or big data, but also developments such as customer experience or the Internet of Things. In order to overcome the challenges and to transform the existing SAP basis, recommendations for action are grouped in seven thematic areas. These topics cover the areas of skills and roles (cloud and supplier management, strengthening of the technology architect, focus on project work), marketing and self-understanding (creation of a service catalogue, regular exchange with the CIO, renaming of the SAP basis), new technologies and innovation (test and innovation lab, proactive & regular training), organisation in change (development of the two subject areas close to structure and application-orientated , virtual teams of experts), standardisation and automation (automation of routine tasks, outtasking of rare tasks), "cloudability", outsourcing & outtasking (assessment of usefulness for the cloud, use of appropriate service forms) and IT roadmap (influence of own IT roadmap). By reflecting on the thematic areas, methods and possibilities for implementing the recommendations are presented.

The Queue determines which support packages are inserted into your system in which order by the SAP Patch Manager. If the queue is not yet fully defined, you must define the queue from the available support packages. If the Queue is already fully defined, it is only displayed; they no longer have the ability to change the selection. However, you can delete the queue completely with Queue [page 37]. Note that your system is inconsistent when you delete the queue after objects have been imported (for example, after an error in the DDIC_IMPORT step and following). The deletion in these SPAM steps should only be used for troubleshooting and you should repeat the insertion of the support packages as soon as possible. The SPAM transaction ensures that only support packages that match your system are displayed in the queue. Support packages intended for another release or an uninstalled add-on will not appear in the queue, even if they are loaded into your SAP system. Prerequisites You have loaded the appropriate support packages with the SPAM into your SAP system [page 15]. Procedure To define a queue, select View/Define SPAM on the entry screen of the transaction. The Select Component dialogue box appears. You will see the list of installed software components (e.g. SAP_BASIS, SAP_HR, SAP_BW, Add-On). Select the desired component. You see the available queue. This queue contains the support packages available for the selected component in your system, and any required Conflict Resolution Transports (CRT), as well as associated Add-On Support Packages. You can: If the queue you see matches your wishes, you can accept the queue with Queue confirm and leave this selection window.

The role of the SME describes an expert in a particular field, such as SME databases or SME-SAP-HANA, in the context of SAP products and is gaining in importance due to new technologies and thematic areas. In order to carry out its activities, it is necessary to have already acquired practical experience in the operation of its thematic focus. Expert tools are also used to fulfil his task. Through the exact definition of disciplines, the SME assumes the informally many tasks of the traditional SAP basis administrator and also new disciplines in the course of new technologies. In addition to the existing features, there will be in the future such as SME-Cloud, SME-SAP-HANA/Databases, SME-Supplier-Management, SME-Security, SME-Compliance, SME-Landscape-Virtualisation-Management (SME-Landscape-Virtualisation-Management) and SMESolution-Manager. SME-Cloud is in contact with the global cloud manager (if it exists in the company). In addition, an expression SME-Security is in contact or reported to the global corporate security sector. An expression SME-Supplier-Relationship-Management or Supplier-Management is orientated both internally (coordination with other departments) and externally (coordination and communication with suppliers). The SME cloud is a special feature of SME Supplier Management.

In order to reduce the complexity of the SAP basis operation and to accelerate and simplify the tasks of the SAPBasis and to create free capacities, standardisation and automation of the existing activities is required. Details can be found in chapters 7.7 and 9.5 of the Master's thesis.

Tools such as "Shortcut for SAP Systems" complement missing functions in the SAP basis area.

This prevents that just because someone would start a new chain, someone would accidentally recognise it as "reality".

Procedure To reset the status of a Support Package or Queue, select Add Status Reset.
