Basically, an SAP Basis administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, managing, maintaining and servicing all technical components of an SAP system landscape. This includes activities such as application setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
A degree in computer science is usually required and is now almost obligatory. If you have completed training as a computer scientist, you can continue your education to become an SAP Basis Administrator and position yourself particularly well on the job market. The Expert Team Lead leads a group of specialists, e.g. a group of SMEs or a specific technical area such as a group of operators. For example, this role can lead and steer a virtual group of experts with the participation of other IT departments on the topic of print management. The role serves as the interface and contact of the SAP basis to other specialist areas such as memory management or operating systems. In cooperation with other IT departments, the Technical Team Lead leads expert groups. These expert groups are usually virtually organised and their existence limited in time. The role of the Technical Lead functions as (partial) project leader for topics and projects of particular importance to the SAP basis. He takes care of all the activities involved in project management and control.
In every company with an SAP system, there is someone who is responsible for the SAP Basis. This person ensures the trouble-free operation of the SAP system. He or she accompanies maintenance work and intervenes in special situations, such as poor performance. Even for companies that hand over the operation of Basis to an external service provider, there are often still tasks from the user and authorization management environment at this point.
