Overall, SAP Basis operation requires not only a high-quality technical infrastructure, but also distinct know-how and experience. This is because the management of the underlying SAP NetWeaver and SAP HANA platforms has become extremely complex.
The operator is now responsible for ensuring smooth and safe operation in the SAP environment. It has a basic understanding of the infrastructure and is well connected within the IT departments. For his daily work he uses suitable tools (e.g. monitoring tools), in which he is trained and trained. In the future, the focus will be on reactive activities such as monitoring systems and processing notifications. The operator acts as a customer of SME-expression standardisation and automation as well as the SME-expression-solution manager. Also, the operational aspects of this role are suitable for outsourcing. However, the accountable parts remain in the company.
The application or application layer
In order to demonstrate the necessary open spaces and capacities and also to demonstrate the innovative power of the SAP basis, regular reporting to the CIO or the management is recommended. If a product or technology is successfully evaluated, this can also be published as a success story within the framework of SAPBasis marketing (see chapter 7.4 in the Master's thesis) within the company.
For existing solutions, it is necessary to assess to what extent the solution is customised. A modification is the more serious the more time-consuming the maintenance is, including testing, e.g. in the case of upgrades. The fewer customer specifications are available, the more suitable a system or application is for external operation by a service form to be chosen.
Some missing SAP basic functions in the standard are supplied by the PC application "Shortcut for SAP Systems".
