An important area of SAP Security is the analysis of the customer's own SAP programs, which are classically written in the proprietary SAP language ABAP. Here, too, as in all programming languages, security vulnerabilities can be programmed - whether consciously or unconsciously. However, the patterns of security vulnerabilities in ABAP code differ from those in Java stacks or Windows programs. The goal of these conventional programs is usually to either crash the program (buffer overflow) or to artificially execute the program's own code (code injection). Both is not possible in ABAP, since a crash of a process causes nothing else than the creation of an entry in the log database (Dump ST22) and a subsequent termination of the report with return to the menu starting point. So a direct manipulation as in other high level languages or servers is not possible. However, there are other manipulation possibilities.

SAP HANA base administrators can master the database in a way that wasn't possible back then. The SAP database is much more self-healing. Errors do less damage, are easier to detect and fix, and are less likely to impact system performance and availability before they are fixed. Monitoring tools can automatically scan the application logs, identify potential errors, and even suggest fixes, making it much easier to get to the root of the problem.

The task of SAP Basis is to ensure trouble-free, interoperable and portable (mobile) operation of SAP systems in the company. Interoperable means that independent and heterogeneous IT systems can work together.

In the SAP Business Objects environment, you can extend the control of permissions using the CMC tab configuration. The tab configuration allows you to easily show or hide specific tabs for users or groups. Enable CMC Tab Configuration By default, the CMC Tab Configuration feature is set to "Don't Limit" and is disabled. For you to be able to use the tab configuration at all, you will need to enable it for now. Note: If you enable the tab configuration, all users that are not under the default Administrators group will not see tabs for the time being. This is because access is denied by default through the CMC tab configuration. Therefore, once enabled, you must maintain tabs for all existing groups. Therefore, make sure you have an account associated with the Administrators Group! To do this, go to Applications, right-click Central Management Console, and select Configure Access to the CMC tab: The CMC can be found under Applications. Now enable the configuration by selecting the Restrict option. Use Restrictions to enable the option. Hide/show tabs If you are now logging in with a user that is not in the default Administrators group, you will not see applications/tabs on the CMC home page. Initially no applications/tabs are visible To display the desired tabs for the groups again, switch to users and groups with your administrator account, right-click on the desired group, and select CMC tab configuration. Enter the tab configuration. In the dialogue that appears, you see that all tabs are denied access by default.

Tools such as "Shortcut for SAP Systems" are extremely useful in basic administration.

The presentation layer is based on the software components, collectively called "SAP GUI".

FME = One of these special characters may occur at any position in the user name (this corresponds to the default setting, i.e. as if no entry was maintained in PRGN_CUST for the switch).
