Assignment of critical authorizations and handling of critical users
Many companies are currently converting their current SAP systems from an ERP state to an SAP S/4HANA system. Through this conversion, many technical and also organizational components come upon the respective companies. The time factor for determining, organizing and implementing the necessary components should not be underestimated. The area of security is often neglected in thought, but can lead to major problems and possibly image-related damage - and resulting financial losses - in retrospect. For this reason, the implementation of a comprehensive authorization concept should be considered as early as possible in the project phase, as several components are intertwined here.

As a role developer, you can now select the specific application in the PFCG transaction from the list of web dynpro applications published by the software developers on the Menu tab and enter it in the Role menu. To generate the role profile, switch to the Permissions tab. There you can check the concrete value expressions of the S_START permission fields and, if necessary, the additional relevant authorization objects for this Web application and supplement them if necessary. Finally, you must generate the role profile as usual.

If you want to understand how to run a permission check in your code, you can use the debugger to move through the permission check step by step. To implement your own permission checks, it may be helpful to see how such checks have been implemented in the SAP standard. In this tip, we show you how to view the source code of permission checks using the debugger in the programme, or how to get to the code locations where the permission checks are implemented.

Configuration validation is a tool that allows systems to be tested against corporate or organisational requirements and regulations. You can find this tool in the Change Management section of the SAP Solution Manager. This allows you to evaluate security-relevant configurations and critical permissions. This is based on the SAP Solution Manager's Configuration and Change Database (CCDB), which stores all details about the configuration of the connected systems. The configuration data is stored in different configuration stores, depending on the type of configuration. You can evaluate the configuration of the operating system, the database, and profile parameters in the ABAP and Java systems. You will also get an overview of the status of transport orders and support packages. You can also track changes to the configurations of the attached systems in the CCDB. You can also graphically evaluate these changes via an end-to-end analysis in SAP BW; contains information on the number of changes per system, the type of changes and the modification date.

For the assignment of existing roles, regular authorization workflows require a certain minimum of turnaround time, and not every approver is available at every go-live. With "Shortcut for SAP systems" you have options to assign urgently needed authorizations anyway and to additionally secure your go-live.

However, in many cases the tools are too costly, so the cost-benefit ratio is usually not given.
