What are SAP authorizations?

Object Privileges: Object Privileges are SQL permissions that control access to and modification of database objects (as a whole). The type of object (table, view, procedure) determines which database operations can be authorised. Database operations include SELECT, UPDATE, ALTER, DROP, and DEBUG.

In the display image of your selected table, go to the Tools menu and select Assign Permissions Group. On the following image, you can then change the association with a table permission group or assign a new permission group. To do this, click the View/Modify button ( ) and enter your permission group in the Permission field.

If the programme determines that both of the criteria set out in the previous bullet points are met, the criterion of equality shall apply. This means that the proposed values of the permission that is already in place and to be added will come from the same transaction. Thus, the programme does not add a new default permission to the permission tree.

Historically grown authorization structures can be found especially in system landscapes that have been in operation for a long time. Instead of small, modular, job-specific roles, existing roles are continually expanded and assigned to different employees in different departments. While this leads to less administrative work in the short term, it causes the complexity of the role to increase massively over time. As a result, the efficiency of authorization development is increasingly lost.

During go-live, the assignment of necessary authorizations is particularly time-critical. The "Shortcut for SAP systems" application provides functions for this purpose, so that the go-live does not get bogged down because of missing authorizations.

We therefore present three possible approaches: 1) Approach to custom development 2) Automated mass maintenance using the Business Role Management (BRM) component of SAP Access Control 3) Use of a pilot note that allows a report for mass update of organisational values in rolls (currently available to selected customers).

The checks for specific authorization objects can be globally off for all transactions (in transaction SU24 or SU25).
