What are the advantages of SAP authorizations?
Change management
The security audit log is evaluated via the SM20 or SM20N transaction or the RSAU_SELECT_EVENTS report. We recommend using the report as you have more options to personalise the evaluation and to include archived logs of different application servers in the evaluation.

In addition to SAP book recommendations on SAP authorizations, I can also recommend the books from Espresso Tutorials such as "SAP Authorizations for Users and Beginners" by Andreas Prieß * or also the video tutorial "SAP Authorizations Basics - Techniques and Best Practices for More Security in SAP" by Tobias Harmes. Both are, among other media, also included in the Espresso Tutorials Flatrate, which I have also presented in more detail under SAP Know How.
Dissatisfaction and unclear needs in the process
Customer and vendor totals statements: The Customer or Vendor Accounting Sum. Rate Tables (KNC1/KNC3 or LFC1/LFC3) do not include the Profit Centre field. Therefore, authorisation control with regard to the profit centre is not possible for evaluations such as the customer and vendor balance lists (transactions FD10N or FK10N).

Here I had to look for a moment at which point for SAP key users and not only for the SAP Basis in the SAP system an authorization is callable and may like to take this as an opportunity to write here in the article a few basics on the "anatomy" of SAP authorizations. To access the SAP system, the first thing you need is an SAP user ID (User). The user maintenance transaction SU01 (or SU01D) can be used to assign roles (from which profiles are derived) in addition to the (initial) password and personal data.

Authorizations can also be assigned via "Shortcut for SAP systems".

If this assignment is not sufficient for your system environment, you can define your own group assignment with the report RSCSAUTH.

If extensive permissions are to be granted for system administration or certain applications, this is done with the S_TABU_DIS authorization object for the table permission group.
